Volunteers are still needed for sorting

The City of Austin is very much in need of volunteers to help sort material donations, and Katrina Help Austin is looking for families willing to provide or assist evacuees with temporary housing in the Austin area. The Parks and Recreation Department has established a sorting center at their donation site. Volunteers may go to 3501 Ed Bluestein any weekday between 8am -5pm to assist in sorting, cleaning and inventory. Please note that the majority of the work may be outside and labor intensive. No minimum or maximum shift is required. For more information contact the Katrina volunteer donation hotline at (512) 974-6775. If you are able to house a family, or have related information, please contact Katrina Help Austin at (512) 440-7965. Their organzation is also requesting the following specific donations: New, packaged underclothes Gift cards to retail outlets (i.e. Target, Wal-Mart) Gas cards
Material donations may resume sometime next week according to the City Manager's Office, however any future drive will be focused on specific items of immediate need. Monetary donations are still welcome and can be made online via The Red Cross, or at the Austin Convention Center, where all monies go directly to the cause of Austin evacuees.
