Jim Lehrer of PBS, 7pm tonight, Ransom Center

Heads up Austin: Jim "Give-'Em-Unshirted-Hell" Lehrer, of PBS' NewsHour fame, will be at Harry Ransom Center this evening to plug his new novel and discourse on the state of American journalism. Should make for an interesting evening, in light of the recent vow by the Dubya-appointed chairman of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to scrub the network clean of it's unfair liberal bias. First step toward that objective? Installing former National GOP co-chair and current State Department flunky Patricia de Stacy Harrison as CPB chief executive. It hasn't officially happened yet, but.... Information wants to be free, and by extension, so does admission to Lehrer. Autographs probably want to be free, too. Books? I'm guessing you'll have to buy 'em. "God Bless PBS" bumperstickers? Melissa and I are planning on bringing a passel, and they'll be free if you want one. Look for the pregnant redhead. Still reading? Gitcha on over to MoveOn and sign the petition to Congress opposing proposed draconian budget cuts to CPB and NPR. Do it now, before Big Bird's extinct.
