It's not the traffic, it's the driving

"Texas drivers are among the worst in the country, and Austin drivers are among the worst of the worst" according to a survey of Allstate Insurance Co, as reported in the June 7 Austin Business Journal: An internal analysis of crashes reported by holders of Allstate insurance shows Austin residents went, on average, only 7.5 years between automobile crashes, as opposed to the nationwide average of 10 years. The report studied drivers in all U.S. cities with more than 100,000 people, including Austin. Nineteen cities in Texas were included in the survey, with only Dallas drivers more likely to have crashes that Austin drivers. Mo-pac getting too much for you? Petrified on 35? Survey says: Move to Cedar Rapids, IA -- drivers there crash only once every 15 years, on average, or 33 percent less often than the national rate. Gee, I guess that makes 'em "The Live Driver Capital of the World".... The ABJ article is here.
