Any state employee who works for an agency headed by an appointed -- not elected -- official is eligible (TDI, TCEQ, DPS, ETC.). So if you're an applicable bureaucrat, call your HR director today. And if you're not... A spokesman for the Secretary of State's office says to call your County Clerk's office -- They need volunteers too. (854-9188 = Travis)

Re: Election Inspectors for November Elections

TDI is again working with the Secretary of State’s office in seeking volunteers to act as election inspectors for the upcoming November 2, 2004 general election. These inspectors are authorized under Chapter 34 of the Texas Election Code to serve as observers of the election process, and their presence in individual polling locations helps ensure the integrity of our elections. This is an opportunity for TDI employees to become involved in the voting process.

Persons interested in inspecting for the general election will be required to attend a school of instruction and take an open book examination in order to be certified as a state election inspector. If you have been previously certified, you will need to attend the school and take the examination. The Secretary of State will announce the training schedule at a later date.

TDI employees who serve as election inspectors will be granted leave time for any time taken off due to training for or serving as an election inspector.

If you are interested in serving as an election inspector, please check with your supervisor and obtain his or her approval. Once you have obtained your supervisor’s approval, contact Cathy Moran in Human Resources at 463-6165 or by email to notify her that you wish to volunteer as an election inspector. Please contact Cathy by 5:00 p.m. on August 27th, if you are interested.
