In 1973 when Dr. Martin Cooper of Motorola dared to reach out and touch rival AT&T Labs with the world's first wireless phone call, his vision was clear: to remove the chains of traditional telecommunications and set us free. Here's where he's taken us:

Motorola today will be taking the cell phone to the next level in its evolution, following the old admonition that "you can never be too thin." At its annual meeting for analysts, the company will introduce its metal-clad RAZR V3 model.

In a world of cashless payment, why not simply make your cell phone a wallet? Japan has long been phasing out the hassle of coins and bills with microchip-laden "smart cards," which let people make electronic payments for everything from lunch to the daily commute.”

( NTTO DoCoMo has developed) a new kind of wearable telephone handset that utilizes the human hand as part of the receiver. Worn on the wrist, this watch-like terminal converts voice to vibration through an actuator and channels this vibration through the bones to the tip of the index finger. By inserting this finger into the ear canal, the vibration can be heard as voice.
Telepathy, anyone?
