What did you do, Grandpa? Were you alert? Did you stay sharp? Did you fight the War on Terror? Or were you a part of it?

How many attacks did you prevent? Was your neighbor a terrorist? How'd you catch him out? What was it like when they came and got him? What happened to him? Did you know his name?

What did you do Grandpa? To keep the homeland safe from enemies? To keep me from feeling afraid? Grandpa, how did you keep freedom free?

Pascal famously wrote: "Forgive the length of this letter, for I had not the time to make it shorter." Forgive the clumsiness of this doggerel, for I had not the time to stop being sick to my stomach.
