Pink States & Plaid States

Since Massachussetts became the first state to legalize same sex marriage on May 17, more than 35 states have introduced legislation aimed at preserving marriage as an institution with a 50 percent divorce rate between a man and a woman. The proposed new laws basically come in three forms -- State constitutional amendments, miscellaneous marriage statutes, and nonbinding resolutions that say"Eeewww!!"
Most helpfully,Stateline has assembled a state-by-state gay marriage guide to help you figure out the law in your neck of the woods, and, maybe, where you want to move. eg:
Texas. Current law: DOMA [Defense of Marriage Act] adopted as state law. Legislation: Resolution introduced urging Congress to pass a federal constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.
Meanwhile, Focus on the Family touts the results of a recent Swedish study -- same-sex marriage is legal there -- that finds same-sex male couples are 35 percent more likely to divorce than heteros, and same-sex female couples are 200 percent more likely. Obviously this proves that if you're pro-marriage and anti-gay marriage you're anti-divorce and pro-gay divorce.... Although how 'bout this idea: Why not sneak in an amendment to some missile bill making gay divorce illegal? That'll stop 'em dead in their same-sex tracks, dontcha think?
